Karl Friedrich Rapp is the founder of BMW – one of the largest automobile manufacturers worldwide. BMW or Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian Motor Works) was founded in 1916 as successor of the engine Rapp.
Many people think that the BMW logo has just turned a white propeller seen in the background of blue sky. This may be true, but you really know who is also from blue and white flag of Bavaria – the largest state of Germany. The state capital of Munich, and this is the place where, even today, the seat of the BMW.


In 1916, with the founding of the company was awarded a contract for the production of V12 engines. These engines were about to be used in the creation of Austro-Daimler cars. These 12 cylinders V engines were first used in the aircraft which is the original design of the BMW company. Given the time that the company was founded it is very likely to remain so.
But in 1919, after the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles of aircraft production in Germany was prohibited and that quickly changed the policy of BMW. the brakes started to make rail transport. In 1959 Herbert Quandt became the “wheel” which turned the BMW around because he denied an agreement with Daimler-Benz and soon after it raised its stake in BMW, up to 50%.
Kurt Golda’s name is stated that the man who led Quandt to do this step and in the same year, BMW has started production of the BMW 700, which is based on the 600 BMW. This little car used two-cylinder air-cooled engines and a few years later it was renamed “LS”. Coupe Cabriolet and some series have also constructed.
In 1963, BMW offers a dividend to shareholders of the company and in 1966, the Munich plant reached its maximum capacity and BMW bought Hans Glas GmbH. This agreement allowed the use of BMW plants in Landshut and Dingolfing.
With a bit of new style provided by Bertone in 1972, BMW began production of new series in May and the following years the company has made great progress in the market. For six years, under the direction of BMW, Bernd Pischetsrieder, has been able to increase its offerings in the market through the purchase of British Aerospace the Rover Group. Rover Group’s history begins in 1986 and until that BMW is owned by the company was able to accomplish many things such as the Rover 400 in 1990.
However, it was sold to Phoenix Holdings Rover and Ford Motor Company of risk because of years of losses for BMW. Jokingly saying that the press called the Rover ‘The English Patient “after the movie of the same name. However, it was not very hard to BMW and have escaped blame. It seems that even the British press was not very enthusiastic about the Rover.
BMW has started production outside of Germany in 1994. New plants have been made in South Carolina and even today, the production of BMW X5 and the BMW Z4 is made. There are factories in other locations, and Oxford, Goodwood and others. After a meeting time BMW has started production in South Africa. Today, exports more than 50 BMW 000 3 annual series in Japan, USA, Africa, Australia and Middle East.
To better serve the market in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, BMW plans to build a new factory located in Cyprus or Greece. A plant in Chennai, India and the production opened in 2007.
